Every since I was a kid I have been one of those girls obsessed with horses. This was considered especially strange for a girl who grew up Brooklyn, but I can't remember a time when I did not love horses. Way before Seabiscuit, my favorite horse racing story was the story of Ruffian and her great match race with Foolish Pleasure in 1975 at Belmont Park. That's a picture of Ruffian in the corner. It is a story that has been named one of the 10 most heartbreaking sports stories of all time according to ESPN. Read all about it in Ruffian: Burning From the Start, a great book about this great filly. For those of you who have always wondered--now you know what the Ruffian reference refers to...wink wink.
