After living in my current apartment for over ten years, I am always saying I will take advantage of my building's roof--but in true NYer fashion I rarely due--till tonite. Last minute- I decided to gather a bunch of my friends on the roof for a "sunset sing". Ok--this is not really as dorky as it sounds. I happen to be blessed with a number of very musical friends --once every month or so we get together in my apartment and Jam--everything from stupid camp songs to the more serious harmonies--there are guitars, beer, percussion--it's a blast and a great way to let off some steam. I started it a few months back when I realized how much I missed singing and just plain emoting in song.
So, this week, when I heard the weather was cooperating --I decided to move the venue to the roof. For those of you who have never lived in NYC - I have foun d that the there are two places in an apt building that create a sense of community and where all the apartment dwellers lives intersect - the laundry room and (if you are lucky enough to have one) the roof.
In my building the roof is wonderful--it overlooks the Hudson River and has an intimate feeling--peopl bring their kids up, have sunset drinks, it is SO civil.
So tonite we brought the music--the toddlers danced, the adults reminiced and we all made some new friends. All in all--a great way to end the weekend and start a new week. One of those little moments that reminds you why NY is so great.
Thanks to Peter and Dave for supplying the music, the harmony and the inspiration!
