If you are a corporate communications and/or marketing professional in the Bay Area wrestling with the concepts of Social Media, I strongly recommend attending the Social Media Club's interactive workshop, From Social media to Corporate Media. The event is this Monday in from 1-6PM at SAP's offices in Palo Alto.
As Chris so eloquently writes:
We know you are out there. You are probably just sitting in your cubicle or office trying to make heads or tails of this new fangled ‘Social Media revolution’ - you are probably even thinking that things sure look and sound a lot like they did 10 years ago in the early days of the dotcom boom. To an extent you are right. Much of what we discuss today shares the same roots as the discussion from 1997 ... But don’t be fooled by the similarities. As a very wise participant in our first Social Media Club meeting in London said - “History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme.”
I'll be there participating in the fun and digging into how the rhymes are subtle yet different today. I look forward to sharing some wisdom and gaining some wisdom.
Hope to see you there.
[Aside: I am very jazzed about the mission and objective of the Social Media Club and am looking forward to --finally--having coffee with Chris Heuer this week at HowardGR's urging, so we can discuss some of our collective ideas. I have had a number of gret conversations in the last two week's the have reinvigorated my excitement around all this social media stuff. It definitely has echoes of 1997 -- only with better software and a few more wrinkles..;) ]
